Help kids to develop social skills and be resilient in a fun way

Country/region

Dit kwartetspel is geschikt voor nederlandse kinderen die een woordje Engels willen leren (en daarnaast wat sociale vaardigheden) en voor de kinderen van de internationale scholen.

A child with social skills is happier, is more self confident and performs better in school. How can we help our children to develop social competence, the ability to cooperate, make friends, and negotiate conflicts? Have a look at this card game. It can really support you when you want to teach a kid several social skills in a fun way. You can also use it during English classes. The purpose of the quartet card game is to collect as many quartets as you can. A quartet consists of 4 cards from the same suit.

This game is conceived and created by Anne Kooijman, a child psychologist together with English and American pupils of the British School in the Netherlands and the American School of the Hague.

Ik werk erg graag met de spellen van de Coole Kikker. Ik vind het erg mooi, kleurrijk en zinvol materiaal. De kinderen waar ik mee werk vinden het ook altijd erg leuk.

The kids love the Cool Frog quartet game. We play it consistently once a week and we choose a card for the whole week. And they choose one for me too!

Berend (10 years old)

I like the Scolding scoofies the best. I say Boeien now and then they don't say anything anymore.

Isabel (mother of 3).

I think they should be able to read a little, but otherwise we have a lot of fun with the texts ;)

We do not use the quartet game to play quartets, but draw a card every Sunday. We hang this card on a whiteboard with the weekly schedule. The coming week is then dominated by that card. The children experience situations during the week where the drawn card is almost always a nice addition. How did you tackle this or that? Oh yes! Sometimes friends ask about the cards on the board and that often leads to interesting conversations. Great!

This game is fun to play with older children (from 8 years old). There is a main question on a card with 4 answers, 4 things you can do. For example: How do you work well together? Or: What can you do if you are bullied? The children can play this themselves. Because they read the questions and answers out loud / ask each other, they learn from it immediately. In this way you can pay attention to social skills in a fun and playful way as a teacher, but of course also as parents.
